Background

Follow-up reports to country visits serve as a reminder to the States of the observations and recommendations made in country visit reports. In conducting follow ups, the Working Group requests the States to provide information on:

  • the implementation of the recommendations made in the country visit reports,
  • the steps taken to implement the recommendations, and
  • the constraints affecting such implementation.

In this regard, all family members, civil society organizations, human rights defenders and other concerned actors working on Uruguay are invited to provide by 20 March 2026, their observations on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Working Group’s report on its country visit to Uruguay.

Objectives

The Working Group decided at its 137th session to assess the situation and the steps taken for the implementation of its recommendations or constraints faced by the Government of Uruguay in response to its recommendation following its visit undertaken in 2022. The follow up assessment is based on the information submitted by the Government, as well as from civil society organizations and other relevant sources. The Working Group will present its follow-up report to the Human Rights Council in September 2026.
