Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
CRPD Working Methods and Guidelines on Individual Communications
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities promotes the full enjoyment by persons with disabilities of their human rights and fundamental freedoms. It sets out obligations for State parties to ensure the legal and practical enjoyment of these rights and freedoms.
The Committee can receive and consider individual communications, also known as complaints, from or on behalf of a person or group of persons claiming to be victims of a violation of the Convention by a State party. Where a communication is submitted on behalf of individuals or groups of individuals, this shall be with their consent unless the author can justify acting on their behalf without such consent.
For the Committee to be able to receive individual complaints, the State party concerned must have recognized the Committee’s competence by ratifying the Optional Protocol (CRPD-OP). You can check this here.
